The Dublin school was beaten 4-1 by RBAI in last year’s All Ireland decider at Portstewart but the blue and whites will have a chance to lift the title again this year after they beat St Benildus College 3-2 in the Leinster decider on Thursday. The inaugural Leinster Championship featured Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny and Laois. Dublin and Kildare contested the very first match on Sunday 3 June 1888. Postponements, disqualifications, objections, withdrawals and walkovers were regular occurrences during the initial years of the championship.
The writing was on the wall in ’96 and Dublin had to go through a rebuilding period. It took us seven years and that period coincided with a new Meath team and the best Kildare team in a long time.
