At the end of your essay you will have listed your bibliography, in other words the books that you have referred to in writing the essay. Within the body of your essay, you only have to provide a small amount of information (the reference ) but it will be enough to tell the reader in which book you found the quotation, and perhaps where to find it in that book.
Citing unwritten sources quoted in another source. When making reference to the spoken words of someone other than the author recorded in a text, cite the name of the person and the name of the author, date and page reference of the work in which the quote or reference appears.
Manchester Metropolitan University has a standard version of the Harvard referencing style called MMU Harvard. The MMU Harvard style requires you to reference each type of information source (eg book, article, webpage etc) in a standard way.
Im just writing an essay at the moment, i have to use the Harvard system of referencing and so normal if i write a quote in my essay from a book by someone whos last name is Smith and that book was written in 2005 and i got the quote from page number 28 i would put (Smith 2005:28) after the quote in the body of my essay.
